How much does a website cost in India? What actually changes the price
2 Oct 2026 · 2 min read
Ask five agencies what a website costs and you will get five very different answers. That is not always because someone is overcharging. A "website" can mean a one-page introduction or a full online store, and the work behind them is very different.
We will not quote a price in a blog post, because the honest answer depends on your project. What we can do is show you what moves the number, so you can judge any quote you receive, ours included.
What drives the cost
1. How many pages and what kind. A simple site with a home page, about, services and contact is a small job. Every extra page type, such as a blog, a gallery or a pricing page, adds design and build time.
2. Whether it needs to do things. A site that only shares information is cheaper than one that takes bookings, accepts payments, lets people log in or runs an online store. The moment visitors can do something, you are moving towards a web application. Our post on website or web app explains the difference.
3. Design: custom or template. A design made around your brand takes longer than adjusting a ready-made template. Neither is wrong. A template can be a good start for a new business; custom design helps when your look is part of what you sell.
4. Your content. Writing, photos and logos take time. If you already have them, the project is quicker. If you need help creating them, that is extra work, and it is worth being clear about it at the start.
5. Changes along the way. The most common reason a project costs more than planned is that the plan was vague. Knowing what you want before you start is the cheapest thing you can do. See what to prepare before building your first website.
Ongoing costs people forget
- Domain name (your web address), renewed every year.
- Hosting, where the site lives.
- Updates and fixes after launch.
- Marketing, because a website does not bring visitors by itself.
Ask any agency which of these are included and which are not.
How to compare quotes fairly
- Ask for what is included in writing: pages, revisions, content help, training, support after launch.
- Ask what is not included.
- Ask who owns the website and the domain once it is finished. It should be you.
- Be careful with a price that is far below everyone else's. Find out what has been left out.
