What to prepare before building your first website

1 Oct 2026 · 1 min read

You don't need to know anything technical to start a website project. But a little preparation makes everything smoother. Here's what helps most.

Know what the site is for

Write one sentence: "People should visit my website to ___." Get enquiries? Book appointments? Buy products? Everything else follows from that sentence.

Gather the basics

  • Your business name and logo (even a simple one is fine — or ask us to design one).
  • A short description of what you offer and who it's for.
  • Photos you're proud of: your work, your team, your products.
  • Your contact details and opening hours.

Look at sites you like (and don't like)

Collect two or three websites — in any industry — that feel right. Note why: the colours, the simplicity, the way they explain things. This is the fastest way to tell a designer your taste.

Think about the words

The text on your website is as important as the design. Decide who will write it: you, us, or a mix. Having rough notes ready helps a lot.

Decide what happens after someone gets in touch

A great website that sends enquiries into a black hole doesn't help. Decide who replies, how quickly, and where those messages go.

Don't worry about the technical stuff

Domains, hosting, security and speed are our job. If you're already using a domain or hosting, tell us where — we'll take it from there.

Ready to begin? Send us a short brief and we'll reply with clear next steps.

Have an idea you want to make work?

Tell us about it in a few plain-language questions — no technical knowledge needed.
